This course provides school nurses with essential knowledge and practical skills for conducting thorough pediatric dental assessments, a critical need given their frontline role in identifying oral health concerns that significantly impact a child's overall well-being and academic performance. Many school nurses have limited formal training in dental assessment, leading to practice gaps such as difficulty recognizing early signs of dental caries, periodontal disease, malocclusions, or other oral pathologies beyond obvious decay, as well as uncertainty in appropriate documentation and referral pathways. The course aims to bridge these gaps by enhancing nurses' ability to perform systematic oral health screenings, identify common pediatric dental conditions, and effectively facilitate access to dental care, thereby improving student health outcomes and reducing educational disruptions caused by poor oral health.
