Pediatric and Adolescent Headaches (2.0 contact hours)

This program is being offered to provide school nurses with advanced education on headache management in the school setting. The opportunity for school nurses to learn about the different types of headaches a child may experience is of utmost importance to their role as health care providers when assessing and treating students presenting to the health office complaining of a headache. The program will review the difference between primary and secondary headaches and the symptoms and treatments of headaches for children in and out of the school setting. The program will also have information on non-pharmacologic strategies and lifestyle changes for preventing and treating headaches. School nurses will learn about stress management strategies and school and environmental accommodations to best support children with headaches in school.
