The purpose of this program is to provide nurses with advanced education on anxiety and depression in school-aged children. The opportunity for school nurses to learn signs and symptoms of anxiety and depression and strategies to help support students in managing their symptoms is of utmost importance to their role as health care providers in the school system. The program will discuss how anxiety and depression may be expressed at different ages, self-awareness strategies to assess emotions and thoughts and warning signs of suicide. The program will also describe supportive environments for students, families, and staff for managing emotions, including a discussion of the importance of language, self and environment. School-based and community-based mental health resources will be included.
